It’s
all about a chance for something better.
For kids who
need
it most.
K-Bar-B
Youth Ranch occupies 75 acres of beautiful wooded land between
Slidell and Lacombe, Louisiana. The property was acquired by
the Kiwanis Club of New Orleans in 1946 and was used as a summer
camp for underprivileged children until the early 1970s. At
that time, the Kiwanis Club formed a partnership with Broadway,
Inc., to create a facility to treat Louisiana's abused children.
Broadway, Inc., is the volunteer board of
directors that governs
K-Bar-B Youth Ranch as a private, non-profit residential treatment
facility. Broadway, Inc., maintains a strong partnership with
the Kiwanis Club of New Orleans which, along with other Kiwanis
Clubs, sponsors the ranch. Ranch sponsorship is one of the
organization's primary projects.
Licensed for up to 25 girls, K-Bar-B cares for 40-50
children in the course of a typical year. It takes an average
of one year to complete the residential program, at which time
the children are placed in foster homes, returned to their
parents or relatives, adopted, or settled in other abuse-free
living arrangements. Children must be referred by the Louisiana
Office of Community Services (OCS) or by a private psychiatrist
or psychologist.
Kids
come to K-Bar-B seeing nothing but obstacles. We show them
possibilities. For
