Child
abuse is a crime. Don’t pass it on.
Life begins at home. But when home is a place of cruelty or
neglect, children find themselves caught up in a cycle of
abuse that can span generations. Parents who were abused as
children all too often practice abusive behavior toward their
own children. Those children, in turn, learn a warped and
destructive version of family life. Breaking that cycle is
the mission of K-Bar-B Ranch.
The unacceptable facts of child abuse represent a significant
problem in St. Tammany Parish and Louisiana and across the
country. Some 31% of women in prison were abused as children.
And about 95% of teenage prostitutes have been sexually
abused.
Every year, more than three million reports of child abuse,
concerning five million children, are made to Child Protective
Service agencies in the U.S. In addition, Louisiana has one of
the highest child abuse fatality rates in the country!
To some, child abuse is one of those problems that seems
too big, too bad and too deeply embedded in society to ever
be
solved. But we do not see it that way. When a child
leaves K-Bar-B stronger, healthier and better prepared for
life and
its challenges, we see a future saved.
If you know of a case of child abuse or neglect, help break
the cycle. Call the Office of Community Services
report line, (800) 259-4586.
